The Limbo Collective. A platform for artists between two cultures
To be rooted is "the most important and least recognized need of the human soul."
There is a question people ask you before you know how to answer it.
"So, where are you from?"
And you answer with your parents' village. Or with your neighbourhood. Or with both at once. And you see in their face that no answer quite satisfies them.
At home you are too much from here. Outside you are too much from there. And in between, you.
They call that place limbo. A place that appears on no map.
We call it home.
Who we are
The Limbo Collective is a platform for artists who grow up between two cultures.
Daughters and sons of migration. People who were born in Spain or arrived very young. Who think in two languages and dream in a third that doesn't have a name yet.
Poetry. Literature. Film. Music. Dance. Theatre. Cooking. Everything that can be told, sung, filmed, danced or served on a plate.
Because those who live in two worlds have more than half a place. They have a double gaze. And that gaze is exactly what this country's culture is missing.
Why now
You are hundreds of thousands. Growing up, studying, working and creating in every city in Spain.
And still, when we turn on the TV, open a book or walk into a cinema, you are almost never there. And when you are, you are almost never the one telling the story.
That has a cost. For you, growing up without mirrors. And for everyone else, growing up without windows.
A generation that cannot see itself cannot be seen by others.
The Limbo Collective exists to change that. Without asking permission. Without waiting for someone to decide to include us. By showing what is already being created in kitchens, bedrooms, rehearsal rooms and phones all over the country.
When presence becomes normal, it stops being an exception. And when it stops being an exception, representation begins.
Where we come from
This idea has spent years looking for a home.
It had another name. It knocked on many doors. Nobody wanted to fund it. And it came back. Because the need was still there, intact.
The Limbo Collective is born of that insistence. Of seeing a gap nobody is filling: a space of our own, with resources of our own, for second-generation creation.
Where we are going
Today we are a platform. Tomorrow we want to be a creation fund. With grants, commissions and production support, so that creating stops being a luxury only some people can afford.
We start in Spain. But limbo has no passport. There is a whole generation growing up between two cultures in Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Milan. With other names, other home languages and the same question. We want The Limbo Collective to grow until it finds them all. A European network of creators of the in-between, connected to each other and visible to everyone else.
The Limbo Collective is born thinking of the future, fixing the present.
